Whether you're supporting students remotely, in the classroom, or navigating a mix of both, Lexia helps you and your students maximize your time.
You already know that educators are integral to the success of each student. Because of this, we wanted to find out exactly how you’re using Lexia to create a personalized approach that supports the varying needs of all students.
Here are three ways you’ve told us you’ve been using myLexia data and Lexia Lessons this school year:
1.Share reports and programs with families
Did you know? Lexia now offers newsletters with hands-on activities to promote literacy development at home. With options for all levels — foundational through adolescent readers — these fun games and projects can be completed with items that families already have at home. Educators can share our Read @ Home newsletters directly with families or include any of the activities in remote learning sessions. These newsletters can be found in the Resources Hub in myLexia, and they are available in both English and Spanish.
Additionally, we encourage you to share reports with parents as a part of conferences or even more frequently to assist parents in staying involved with their children’s progress. We recommend you log in to myLexia® at least once a week to review your class Action Plan to check the progress of your students. Look closely at the Need Usage tab to see if any of your students are not meeting their usage goals. Also, view the Struggling tab to take steps to get students the support they need.
2. Use Lexia resources for struggling students instead of having to search
If you are currently providing direct instruction to your students using district-approved video conferencing, consider using Lexia Lessons as part of this instruction. Lessons are scripted materials that allow teachers to provide explicit, multi-sensory instruction in specific skill areas. Lexia Lessons are automatically recommended for struggling students based on their performance in the online activities. Each Lesson is organized into practice sections that build in complexity to reinforce and extend online learning and are designed for a 1:1 or small-group setting. They only require approximately 15-20 minutes to deliver, giving you the ability to control the pace and make adjustments when needed. Alternatively, you may consider sharing specific recommended Lexia Lessons with families for instruction to be done at home. Lexia Lessons can now be downloaded from myLexia and shared with families via email, LMS, or Google Classroom. You can also point families to our Support for Families website.
3. Adjust Instruction for Students at Any and All Levels of Learning
myLexia essentially functions as a behind-the-scenes teacher’s helper, thanks to our Assessment Without Testing® technology, which helps educators use technology to personalize learning for every student. With Lexia, educators can access both periodic screening and diagnostic data, real-time progress monitoring data, as well as the resources needed to connect student performance data to classroom instruction. Here’s a breakdown of how it can work:
Lexia provides explicit, systematic, adaptive learning, scaffolding instruction for students as they struggle and advancing them to higher levels as they demonstrate proficiency.
Using Lexia’s real-time student data reports, educators can easily identify the students who are struggling and the specific skills they need to address. This helps teachers quickly prioritize and identify tiers of instruction and instructional groups without sifting through pages of data. Lexia's data reports also help teachers predict their students’ risk of reading failure and provides each student’s percent chance of reaching end-of-year benchmarks.
If a student struggles in a particular Lexia activity, the program provides a level of scaffolding, removing some of the answer choices and stimuli on the screen. Once the student demonstrates that they understand the skill, they have the opportunity to try the activity again. If the student continues to struggle, Lexia Lessons offer step-by-step, skill-specific instruction on the concepts and rules of the skill, allowing the student to demonstrate proficiency and then return to the standard activities.
Armed with this tool, assessment can become more personalized and less labor-intensive for teachers, thereby freeing up more time to connect with students through authentic and developmentally appropriate teaching.
